Weekly Picture News

At Powell's, we are passionate about ensuring that the vision and values explored in worship sessions are lived out in day to day life. In weekly class worships, therefore, we often use "Picture News" to facilitate discussion and reflection and relate worship to the world around us. Picture News is created for children aged 5-11 and explains recent news stories and current affairs at an age-appropriate level. The resources encourage the children to think critically about what they hear, consider how it makes them feel and reach a judgement regarding where they stand on divisive questions and topics. Each Picture News resource pack also relates the story in question to relevant Bible passages, British values and protected characteristics. Below are some examples of Picture News slides that have been previously used, including one specifically intended for Early Years children.
