Our Vision and Values
Our school vision is ‘talk, learn and grow on our journey together’. It is inspired by Luke 24: 13-35 ‘The road to Emmaus’ and is lived out by all those involved in the school.
Each part of our vision is at the core of everything we do and reflects our approach to all parts of school life.
Talk This represents not just the act of talking and how we learn through talking but the relationships we have within our school community. A great strength of our school is our relationships, whether it be between staff and pupils, staff and family or the pupils. We know the strength of these relationships ensure that our children are encouraged and nurtured to be the very best they can be.
Learn We want our children to learn to their best ability and deepen their understanding as they progress through Powell’s.
Grow Life is about growth. We want our children to be the best versions of themselves and as they journey through Powell’s we encourage them and support them to achieve this.
We place no limits on our children. We believe that they can achieve anything they want to achieve whether that is academic or social. Our school has a breadth of curriculum where we offer as many opportunities as possible, this allows our children to develop to be the very best they can (to develop to their full potential.
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.’ Micah 6 verse 8(b).
This photo shows our school living out our vision. It was taken at one of our ‘Race for life’ events where all the year six children spontaneously gathered around and ran with one of our youngest pupils to help her cross the finish line. The photo was used a focus when discussing and confirming our current vision. We were really proud of our children for doing this and feel it really reflects embodies the ethos of our school.
As a school community we spent time considering the core values that are important to us as a school and feel that by living out those values we are preparing our children to be good citizens of the future in society. Our core values are:
Respect: Our golden school rule – ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you’ (Matthew 7.12)
Perseverance: ‘I can do all things through Him who strengthens me’ (Philippians 4.13)
Thankfulness: ‘Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Generosity: ‘And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.’ (Hebrews 13:16)
Kindness: ‘Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you’. (Ephesians 4:32)
Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. We support, encourage and nurture everyone to aspire to be the best versions of themselves so that they realise their full potential; both in learning and in their relationships.
