Captain Tom 100
Just before the Easter holidays all the children in years 2 - 6 were photographed in the shape of a number 100 to launch the Captain Tom 100 challenge which runs from 30th April - 3rd May. Everyone is being encouraged to think up a challenge based around the number 100 and fundraise between these dates. Please see attached link to The Captain Tom Foundation, for further information if you would like to take part. The Foundation supports a number of very worthwhile charities including Young Minds and Place2be which are charities that support young people's mental health. As a school we have received very valuable training from Place2be and used their resources to support children in our school.
Earlier this year I led a worship setting the children the challenge of completing acts of kindness to celebrate the life of Captain Tom. I set the children the challenge of completing a 100 acts of kindness between them and we certainly achieved this. I was so impressed by the acts of kindness which they shared including writing letters to family and friends far away, helping around the house, looking after neighbours, baking and many more.
Please see below a letter from Sir Captain Tom Moore's daughter - Hannah Ingram-Moore, who kindly wrote a letter to the children thanking them for taking part.
Dear Mrs Cooper and everyone at Powell's
I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking part in the 'Captain Tom 100' launch with your wonderful drone image.
I had heard from Roo and Mimi Johnston's mum what a fantastic school you are and I'm so thrilled that you were able to help us make a splash with the launch of the Captain Tom 100. It's a campaign that celebrates the life of my father Captain Sir Tom Moore and will get us all continuing what he started by spreading joy and fundraising wherever we can.
My father would have been delighted that you took the time to be an important part of the campaign so a huge thank you from my family and all of us at The Captain Tom Foundation.
We hope you and the children will be able to part in the CT100 campaign, which takes place from 30th April (which would have been my father's 101st birthday) until 3rd May.
You can do absolutely anything you like at all involving the number 100: you can bake cakes, do star jumps, write poems, kick a ball, jump on a trampoline - it's basically anything your imagination can conjure up (and it's all socially distanced and COVID-safe of course). More information will be on the way to school very soon.
The main thing is that the Captain Tom 100 is about having lots and lots of fun so we hope you can join us. Every single person on the planet is invited to take part!
Many thanks once again and warmest wishes
Hannah
