Music

Music at Powell’s

All pupils benefit from a weekly dedicated music lesson. In addition to which we offer the following:

 Instrumental Lessons

We currently have teachers who offer individual payable lessons on the following instruments:

Please note that children wishing to learn guitar, drums, clarinet, saxophone or trombone generally need to be in Y3 or above (Y2 onwards for violin, flute or recorder). Availability is variable and your child may need to be added to a short waiting list.

These are payable lessons run by individual peripatetic teachers and the prices vary.  If your child is interested in learning to play a musical instrument, please contact the relevant instrumental teacher (see details above) who will advise on cost and availability.

Instruments are available to hire at a reasonable rate via the Gloucestershire Music Service and, if you receive free school meals, this loan is free of charge (forms available in the School Office).

There are many performance opportunities for Powell's musicians, including the School Orchestra and Wind Band. Our Christmas and Bingham Hall Concert are some of the opportunities that allow them to showcase their amazing talents.

All children will be offered a free Ukulele course during their time in KS2 (usually in Y3 or 4).

Music Clubs

Children who have had instrumental lessons, are reading music and are keen to play as part of a group may choose to join one of our music clubs:

  • Lower School Choir
  • Upper School Choir
