PSHE - Subject lead Hannah Jones
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)
At Powell’s C of E Primary School, we aim to promote independent, healthy, confident and responsible members of society. We encourage all our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community through school councils, fundraising events, supporting nominated charities and involvement in community activities. Through discrete PSHE lessons and worships, children are given the opportunity to develop their understanding of the outside world using role-play as well as exploring their emotions and feelings. We celebrate differences in opinion, appearance, value and preference daily as well as sharing picture books in each year group. The rights and responsibilities of our children are celebrated and used to create class charters which are referred to throughout the school day.
Our pupils’ wellbeing is at the core of everything that we do. We incorporate mindfulness into our daily curriculum and have PSHE curriculum weeks where we focus on developing resilience for mental health. We have a nominated ‘Well-being Wonder’ from each class in KS1 and KS2, who meet monthly with a member of the ‘Well-being Team’ of staff. They share ideas on how to promote positive wellbeing throughout the school and feedback, to their class, any suggestions from the meeting.
